Fixing fixed mindset tendencies

To be brutally honest, there is no black and white.

You don't have either a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. You most likely have a mix of the two and maybe some stronger tendencies to one or the other.

Phew

Now that this is clarified, let's look at those possible fixed mindset tendencies that you might have as well as how to solve them:

1. You say "nah-ah" to challenges: avoiding challenges may come from the fear of failing or judgment from others or maybe the limiting belief that you are not capable enough to take this on.

-> Say yes to the next challenge that opens up for you and sees it as an opportunity to learn and grow, there is nothing to lose from this perspective. And yes, you are capable!

2. You tend to look at the garden of other people and compare it to yours: well-known comparisonitis here, if this is you you may feel envious or defeated because their garden looks nicer than yours.

-> Focus your energy on your garden, grow flowers, pick the weeds, and celebrate what you accomplish.

3. You think you are not good enough to look after the garden: you believe you might not know enough, or don’t do it the right way and that you can’t learn anymore and everything just sucks so you give up.

-> Any effort is part of your path to mastery, embrace being shite at first and getting better with time, we all start at the same spot!

4. You think your talent of how well you tend to your garden defines you: It doesn't, you define your own self-image and worth. Not your talents or abilities.

-> Appreciate the imperfect being that you are, recognise the freedom that comes with realising that you don't have to be perfect, you just got to be yourself!

5. You play it safe and stay within your comfort zone: If you want to grow a magnificent and magical forest in your backyard, you won’t get there by playing it safe. Excellence, mastery and extraordinary requires taking risks.

-> Step out of your comfort zone and create the impossible. Be the frontrunner of your dreams, not the book “Gardening 101”.

Having fixed mindset tendencies ain't nothing to be ashamed of, as we all have them. The fact that you are here reading this means you are willing to grow and learn and change, and that means so much more! (and btw is a HUGE element of the growth mindset!).

Also shifting your mindset takes time and effort, it’s a constant up-and-down game but it does get easier when in it with someone else: Hi, I’m Josi and I’m a certified professional coach and here to help.
